I don't really have the ability to identify the added flavoring. It was discreet and perhaps a liquor of some sort. All of the other components combined to provide a pleasurable, if not awe inspiring smoke. Not sure that I'll purchase another tin but have smoked half of this one in about six months. So, its a nice alternative smoke for times when you are on the go and don't really have time to focus on what you are smoking.

I realized before reading the last couple of years of reviews that Snug Harbor wouldn't be for everyone, and understand the comments given. But, after a little more than two years, I opened a tin of this today to see if I still liked it. And, I do. Even though I've gradually switched more to VA's and some VaPers, I will still head home to Latakia on occasion. To me, this is still a very nice blend. I love the room note, and the underlying leaf is all good. I have never yet tasted any of the advertised Perique, but it's still quite nice.
Wow - this stuff is great! A light English blend of obvious quality, and with a whiff of the vanilla, it's amazing. An English with high grade latakia, yet with an aroma that won't drive anyone out of the room. Some feat, that. I can enjoy this on occasion, in any one of my pipes dedicated to latakia blends, and the aromatic casing is so light that it's invisible the next time I load up with Odyssey or Raven's Wing. Best of all, no tongue bite. This may not be an every day blend for most, but for a wonderful change of pace, this needs to be on hand for most everyone's rotation. After 2-3 years, it can only be even better. Highly recommended.

This blend is pleasant and satisfying. More so than I thought it would be. I was a little leery about the vanilla flavoring, but I needn't have worried. It's very well done. It's also a mildly sweet vanilla which I like a lot. The Burley, Latakia, and Oriental components are well balanced with the Perique lightly done. The sweet vanilla flavoring is mild but present from the top to the bottom. I like this as a change of pace, smoking it only a couple of times a week.

Cornell & Diehl - Snug Harbor.
From Smokingpipes.com, bulk.
The mixture comprises light, medium, and dark browns. The aroma from the pouch is a definite aromatic one, making identification of both the alcohol and vanilla easy.
At first the smoke has the flavour of vanilla and alcohol on top of Burley, Latakia and Orientals. The Perique doesn't come to life until the final third, where the smoke develops more of a tanginess. The toppings are always present but never too heady. The burn's faultless, the temperature's below medium, and there's not a bite to be had from it.
Nicotine: medium. Room-note: pleasant to tolerable.
Snug Harbor? It does a grand job of bridging the gap between English' and aromatic'. Recommended:
Three stars.

Don't know why exactly, maybe it's because of the quarantine and I'm bored. But I've been on a huge aromatic English kick lately. It took me a full night to scope through Smokingpipes website and lock down the so called English Aro's". I think I did a pretty good job at the haul I made. lol
Onto Snug Harbor. Various shades of light to dark brown tobaccos, mixed into the black Latakia. Fairly even chopped ribbon, with an occasional chunk of leaf. Good new is, no twigs in my 4oz pouch. Great moisture content. This isn't overly dry like some C&D blends can be, I reckon because of the light casing.
Pouch aroma first hits with a subtle smoke, with a hint (I mean very small hint) of sweet donut/pastry aroma. Maybe vanilla? Upon a deep inhale, the sour of the perique is detected. I don't detect the alcohol that some say.
Packs very well. I found this worked best in a tall, narrow bowl.
1st half of this blend is heaven. The burley adds the perfect amount of toasted bready notes to perfectly combine with the sweet pasty like topping. The Latakia doesn't play a big part of this blend, but compliments it perfectly.
2nd half of this bowl totally changes. The Orientals shine through, with the Perique front and center. The sweetness still shows through as well as the Latakia in the background. Burns clean and cool, leaving a pleasant clean feeling palate.
This is a phenomenal aromatic English. Balanced, well rounded, perfectly sweetened. Each leaf plays well of the next. Solid 4 stars!

I liked this. This was what I expected from S.G. Perfection when I read the tin. A wonderful English, with quality ingredients, and you can actually perceive the Vanilla. Not in any overpowering way, but like a pleasant ghost that bobs and weaves through the smoke. It's not there all the time, but it comes and goes. Never bitter, and the latakia level stays courteous...not overbearing. The fact that it is in the bulk category makes the price well worth it- and that's worth the fourth star in my book.

Snug Harbor, It's not just a tobacco it's a place. As with other Creek and Bay names, im sure there are many Snug Harbors around the world but it's the one in Prince William sound Alaska that I am familiar with. I spent a lot of time there in my youth. I freely admit this is a biased review because of my connection to that bay. I really wanted this to be a good tobacco! I'm happy to report it didn't let me down, I truly enjoy it. Bob Runowski crafted another subtle wonder with this English/Aro, lit it and forget it. Snug Harbor is a delicious blend. The topping is mildly noticeable at the start of a bowl but dwindles off to let the natural tobacco flavors take the staring role. The Burley and Oriental team up for a consistent nutty, mild tart/sour note throughout the smoke. The Latakia is mild and almost always at the back of the stage. More noticeable than the perique which is subtle until late in the smoke. The robust Classic C&D burley flavor is present but the topping and blending has it singing a slightly sweeter note than usual. Very nice change of pace from the Burley Flake serious.

Snug Harbor to me is one of those crossover English/Aros which seem to be pretty popular. The bag note (from bulk) was English/Latakia/Smoky. The tobacco was a little dry compared to some CDs but was immediately smokable.
Easy to pack. Easy to Light. In the smoke I picked up the Latakia smokiness but it was balanced by a sweetness which I'm guessing is vanilla or maybe whiskey of some sort? It is subtle enough, stays in the background and allows the tobacco taste to come through. I don't pick up anything which makes me think the perique is a high percentage.
I enjoyed this one more than I really expected to and think it will be a good tobacco for my commutes when I want a smoke I really don't have to pay attention to but which is pleasurable. Not sure I'll buy more but would never refuse it.

Opened up a sample of snug harbor this morning. Heavy on the burley. Light on everything else. Packed very easy. Lit like a champ. This smoked heavy but stated light. Room note came out strong with lat. Enjoyed it so much my samples went into a jar for later use.

This is the stuff! very crisp clean taste, yet full and rich. mild undertones of vanilla and a spicy finish make this smoker happy as a clam. I would advise experimenting with packing and drying as this blend can be finicky. If you do your part it should burn cool and have minimal gurgle (although I usually get a tiny amount at the very bottom of the bowl) I recommend using a good churchwarden for it.
This expert blend will be in my evening rotation.
