Undoubtedly, this is the most surprising Dunhill blend I've ever smoked. My tin was a hand-blended job from Mark Burrows of the Dunhill, London Shop in the early 1990s. I have learned over the years that the hand-blended tins of certain Dunhill blends vary widely in flavor, texture and smoking qualities. So, others here may have found October 89 to be a pleasant experience. I found it to be distasteful. May be the strongest (nicotine) aromatic I ever put in one of my pipes.

UPDATED. Having had this blend sit out of the tin in a jar. I can now taste a apricot topping with a dash of cherry. Close in texture to Royal Yatch. A smooth mild smoke that can border on the bland side. It can get a little bitter toward the end of the bowl. upgrade to thre stars. THIS BLEND IS CLOSE TO EARNMORE MIXTURE IN FLAVOR AND AROMA BUT NOT AS HARSH. SMELLS BETTER AND SMOKES BETTER WHEN LEFT TO SIT OUT OF THE TIN IN A JAR. A GOOD BLEND TO INTRODUCE YOURSELF TO DUNHILL BLENDS. VERY HARD TO FIND IN THE US.

I do not hope that Alfred lived to see this abomination of a blend. I am quite certain he wasn't around when some disturbed employee of the Dunhill store, or murray's came up with pathetic excuse for tobacco.
Leaf quality is top-quality as usual; I could not detect anything else than VA, because this blend is saturated with Hubba-Bubba flavouring. They call it "a dash of berries", I call it a punch in the head with a softball bat made out of cheap chewing gum.
I bet this one could scare the hell out of the most hard-core aromatic fancier; hell, I even like Aristocrat from J.B Russell better. Urgh...
