A very pleasant mix of grassy, citrusy gold Virginia cavendish, and nutty, lightly sharp white burley topped with two different types of rum. I taste the Jamaican more. The grassy, citrusy Virginia is slightly noticeable, the nutty sweet burley a little more so. Smoked at a moderate rate, it does well. Only fast puffers will experience a hot smoke. If it has any drawbacks, it's the lack of strength, though it has a smooth, fairly consistent flavor. Nice burn rate, too. Has little nicotine. Won't bite or get harsh. Needs a few relights, and leaves little moisture in the bowl. Has a nice after taste. An all day smoke. Currently made by Sutliff, and sold by a number of companies under the same name.

This is my first return to pipe smoking in many years, and I settled on this blend as a starter. The aroma was rather mellow and while it had hints of rum, it was not overpowering.

The blend lit easily but the smoke tasted flat. I was disappointed that little if any of the flavorings came out in the smoke, and I found the room note to be somewhat disappointing and stale.

Overall, I didn't like this at all and decided to trash what was left after a few bowlfuls. This is a ghost of a blend and really isn't worth your time. If new smokers try this as their first tobacco, they're liable to give up the hobby posthaste! Do yourself a favor and avoid this transparent blend at any cost.

I am a returning pipe smoker after decades of not smoking. I have tried a little of this, a little of that, and of course, the old standby Capt Black (white).

I found a tobacconist in town who has bins of bulk tobacco. I inquired about Buttered Rum tobacco and got a small sample of it. The tobacco is really nice smelling and not overpowering at all.

Buttered Rum has the great taste of mellow Cavandish with a hint of a buttery rum candy type of taste. The room note is very nice too. I received comments as "Wow, what is that you're smoking? It smells great!".

The only thing about Buttered Rum is that you have to be a little careful when lighting and puffing. Too hard too fast too soon, and it will bite. It's a wonderful tobacco to just sit back, relax, and chill.

A+

I like to eat things like fried chicken, roast beef, spaghetti and meatballs, but sometimes, my sweet tooth kicks in. When that happens, it's things like Hershey bars and chocolate chip cookies I reach for. So it is with pipe tobacco. My normal fare tends toward full English/Balkan mixtures, uncased Virginias and Virginia/Perique tobaccos. There are times, however, when only a confectionary-type tobacco will do, the sort of thing my uncle used to call "cookie batter" pipe tobacco. This is a good example; the pouch aroma and room note are very much like cookie dough. It's the kind of scent that invites strangers to approach you to ask about that wonderful-smelling tobacco you're smoking. As far as taste goes, Buttered Rum's is basically a typical mild burley flavor, with a little background sweetness coming from the Golden Virginia. The buttered rum flavoring isn't overwhelming, but it is noticeable at all times and is not unpleasant. Buttered Rum comes in a finer cut and if smoked too vigorously, it gets quite hot and will bite. It's available in bulk at a reasonable price. On the whole, it's a decent flavored aromatic; not something I smoke regularly, but not a bad choice when my sweet tooth asserts itself.

If your into aromatics it is quite a good blend, it is quite mild...and the flavoring/room note is a wonderful smell...at least it passed the girlfriend test.

When i first lit the bowl it was burnt tasting, but after a moment this faded into a warm butterrum smell.

If your just starting out it may bite you a little bit, just take it slow and its quite tasty.

Buttered Rum. January 2006. If you are new to the world of pipe smoking,or enjoy aromatic blend's you may like and enjoy Buttered Rum.

A friend kindly posted this to me from the USA,to Australia.

For best lighting result's let a portion dry out on paper for 20 min's,then fill your pipe, even after doing so,it still required 3 light's and 5 or 6 tamp's to smoke it to the bottom of the bowl.

It was rather pleasant and nothing really bad about it,but it just didn't ring any bell's for me,but I am a great lover of straight virginia's,latakia, and virginia perique blend's.

Definitely not bad,but not great either.

I bought this at my local tobacco store and I say its is a nice pouch aroma and lights well in small pipes . It even passes the wife test . The very nice aromatic to smoke when you have guests. But for me its not and everyday smoke . The taste is a little buttery and the rum has a little bite, but burns to a nice ash to the bottom. I probably wont buy this one for a while.

A tasty Aromatic of the Danish school of blending. Perfect moisture content, non-sticky, and real Virginia and Burley flavor. Reminds me a little of Rum & Maple only much less sweet. A little bite prone if puffed too hard. A much better than average Aromatic. Recommended.

This is another one of those blends you might find in the hinterlands, while browsing in a pharmacy. A huge plastic sack of tobacco for about $10. As with Gold Burley, this one is surprisingly pleasant and tasty. It has a wonderful butterscotch aroma. The taste is pleasant, if monochromatic. If you think the pouch description sounds good, you will probably enjoy it. There are many more costly, and yet foul blends you can buy from a drugstore...A genuine bargain for the aromatic lover. Some tobacconists sell this stuff from a jar for two or three times as much.
