From the description of this blend (available only at the Dunhill Store in London), I expected the worst, but I was curious nonetheless. A mix of Royal Yacht and No. 10 (which is very very similar to London Mixture) with the addition of a secret special ingredient? Yuck, how could a human mind conceive this stuff? Well, someone did and actually appreciated it... since this mixture was created many decades ago for that great (but often miscast) American actor called Allan Ladd. It seems that he loved this stuff... weird, I'd rather picture him smoking cubed burley or similar (but probably I have seen "Shane" too many times not to think of him as a cowboy...). I can't picture what the secret ingredient is, but from the smell it's something VERY weird... Of course the funky tin aroma could also be due to mysterious interactions between the mindboggling smell of Royal Yacht and the Latakia/Orientals of No. 10: well, yes, it's truly a smell similar to RY with a more acidic/smoky overtone. Puzzling at first, but quite intriguing. How does it smoke? Well, since the two original blends burn well and dry, this does the same. The taste is very mild, leaning more towards RY than No. 10: a sweetish, rich, but very mild and subtle smoke. Actually, this can be much more enjoyable and tolerable for those who think that RY is a bit too much. While quite powerful in nicotine, this blend is nowhere near as head-spinning as pure Royal Yacht: a good thing for those who like RY's taste but can't tolerate its strength or find it too sweet, as this one is more winey, IMHO. Ultimately I find this blend quite unsatisfying in taste and way too "delicate" (kind way of saying that it doesn't have much to offer), but it's not bad to smoke once in a while. If you are a fan of Royal Yacht but want something different to try, you may find this one excellent... but of course you might prefer to experiment blending RY with London Mixture to suit your taste as they are both much cheaper than this one! Me, I won't buy this again as there are dozens of more satisfying tobaccos out there.
