Paul Olsen No. 25
(1.00)
This blend is a flake medallion blend, with the medallions being much smaller than either Davidoff Flake Medallions, or Peter Stokkebye's Medallion blend. These medallions are about the size of a US nickel.
Unlike the two mentioned above, these do not have a core of cavendish and smell slightly of latakia, though it is hard to discern much taste of latakia. There doesn't seem to be any flavoring or top dressing. The blend lights fairly well and burns to a white ash.
Another review here says this will burn your tongue. I did not have that experience, so perhaps this is not the same blend as the other reviewer. This is a fast burning but not hot burning blend.
The blend I have indicates the company is a purveyor to the Danish Royal Court.

This the remake of Black Caledonian, a Danish Curly Cut which is discontinued, but remade by one of the few real blenders still active.
I must admit that I haven't tried the original one, since it became discontinued before I started smoking pipe. But I trust my blender, since he has made many other blends similar to the original.
Upon opening the tin I was greeted with a rather bland an neutral smell. Nothing new here; it reminds me of Orlik's "New Ripples" (which is ok)... Well, I thougt - this is gonna be fine; a nice classic Danish everyday VA-smoke, but...
Even though this blend has nothing to do with MacBaren's famous curlies, it's gonna burn you even more!!
Nice topping, (like freshly made biscuits) good quality leaf, smolders like a baby, but oh be warned! It's gonna burn you!
Stick your tongue in a pot of boiling oil, smoke a bowl of MacBarens VA No.1 and you'll get the same effect when smoking this.. What a shame, because the toppping is really nice.
