I'm amazed that this blend isn't on the "radar". I picked up a sample from Affordable Pipes as an after thought when trying some of their more popular blends and quickly found myself gravitating time and again back to Old Fashioned. You know how once in a while you enjoy a pipe full that lasts in your memory for days and you can't wait to have another? That is the way this blend is for me and I've yet to be disappointed in the return visit. The Virginias give it richness, the burley a nuttiness and the cavendish just a little sweetness and the whole seems greater than the sum of its parts. I highly recommend this one. Truly a desert island tobacco for me.

This is a great in between sort of mixture. It has enough Virginia and Burley to taste of tobacco, while the chocolate flavored Black Cavendish gives it a pleasantly sweet flavor, and a glorious room note.

This is the sort of thing to drink with coffee while reading the morning paper on a lazy Sunday.

P.S. For those of you who lament the passing of Edgeworth RR, this one is very similar in flavor, while being more a ribbon cut.

Now HERE's a quality Half-&-Half blend.

When I initially purchased this blend several months ago, I thought this tobacco was decent, but nothing to write home about.

Wow, what a few months of aging does to Old Fashioned! Both the burley and the Virginia interact in a most pleasant fashion. This has some complexity to it -- natural (moderate) sweetness with nuttiness, and also a buttery-type mouthfeel to it. No artificial anything; just good ol' tobacco leaf.

After smoking all my stash, I promptly ordered more. I now smoke this gem daily.

This tobacco proves the "Old Fashioned" addage that patience is a virtue.

After sampling a few ounces of this blend I ordered a half pound. I'm glad I did. I've been smoking several of the other blends daily from Affordable Pipes for a couple of months now and I'm pleased to add this to the rotation. This may be my favorite of all; it ranks right up there with Blue Grass Melody in the flavor department. The difference between BGM and Old Fashioned is noticable; Old Fashioned has a good bit of Virginia added to the mix. This may be the finest Burley/Virginia blend I've had yet. It's a bit on the mild side but sure hits the spot. I could smoke this all day. I can't express how pleased I have been with these blends from Affordable Pipes; Fog Cutter and Morning Watch are a bit too characteristic of your typical äromatic" yet still manage to allow the great tobacco flavor to come through. Old Fashioned is a tribute to fine tobacco and should be sampled by all who like Virginia and Burley together. Very solid 4 stars!

This was my favorite tobacco of all time. I smoked it almost exclusively. When I went to order a quantity a few months back, I was told that Affordable Pipes has stopped selling tobacco. What a let down. I asked if I could buy a large quantity of the remaining Old Fashioned, and I just got a curt "no".

Anyway, this was some great stuff. If anyone can recommend something similar, I'm all ears. As the late writer, Gene Hill, once said: "If you really like something, you ought to buy two" (or in this case - a large amount).

I got a sample of 'Old Fashioned' with my regular 2 lb. order of 'Blue Grass Melody'. It's a nice no bite tobac with a wonderful room note. This one easily passes the wife test but the flavor is just a degree to close to an aromatic to suit me. For some reason this reminds me of a stronger version of Frog Morton which to many pipers is reason in itself to try it. I like all the blends from Guy and Jackie but for now will stick with BGM which I think is their very best.

This blend indeed reminds one and all of the "old days". Something very familiar with the roomnote. My wife likes the roomnote of Old Fashioned very much. And the taste takes you back to when you snuck a taste of grandpa's pipe. It is a even race between Old Fashioned and Guy's Favorite for me. Although all the blends I sampled from Guy Wallace have been simply the best in flavour and aroma! Another blend for the rotation. I think I need a bigger "cellar" now.
