The dark brown cavendish is slightly grassy, citrus sweet. The black cavendish is toasty sweet and may have a little vanilla. The burley is toasted with a touch of earth, and I observe it a little more in the last third of the smoke. The toppings sublimate the tobaccos, but leave just a little room for them to speak out to your tongue. The sweet rum is lightly applied, while the chocolate has a mild, but rich taste, and is more noticeable than the rum. I think there may be a little vanilla added because I’m not sure much is coming from the black cavendish. Burns at a decent rate with a very smooth, cool and creamy consistent flavor. Low on nicotine. Won’t bite, and leaves little moisture in the bowl. No dottle. Sweet, but not overly so, making for a pleasant all day experience. Has a very pleasant room note, and will bring the neighbors over for a visit.

It seems to me that some of the best aromatics available on the American market are being produced in bulk form by tobacco shops with a rich history. Uhle's fills that bill. Black Stoker is a fairly dry aromatic in both feel and burning quality. The nice cocoa flavor doesn't crowd out this all dark tobacco. I didn't pick up much of the rum flavor as it must have been added very lightly. I didn't experience any tongue bite either. As with all of the Uhle's house tobaccos, the leaf is of high quality. The flavor builds as the bowl progresses and BS leaves no goop at the bottom of the pipe. As aromatics go, I wouldn't call this the sweetest aro I have ever smoked, nor the lightest. Black Stoker falls right in the middle. BS is another well done tobacco from Milwaukee's favorite pipe shop. Three and a half stars.

Black Sltoker is another Uhle's winner in my book. Quality Burley is used as well as fine extract from Cocoa beans to produce an undertone of dark chocolate and a true tobacco flavor throughout the enhanced smoke. Never got hot or soggy in the pipe either. Must have more!

Wow! I just had the best smoke I’ve ever had!! Now, I’m no seasoned veteran. I’ve been smoking for nearly 2 years now, but have not been very regular. On average, I have probably smoked less than twice a month and have been trying to figure out this complicated pastime. So, up until now, I didn't feel I had much of a right to review a tobacco, but today was different. As I smoked my pipe (on SuperBowl Sunday, a stone's throw from the Meadowlands where the Broncos and Seahawks will be playing in a few hours, watching helicopters hover and planes with banners as signs that something is different about today) I really enjoyed it like I never have before.

I’ve used a few different pipes, and have read ceaselessly to figure out my mistakes. I’ve learned to smoke slower, I’ve just learned recently of the air-gap method (which has been the best so far), and I use several pipe cleaners along the way to keep the moisture from building up in the bottom of my pipe. I’ve tried a number of different tobaccos, including a few from the shop Briar and Burley in Bloomington, IN where I got my first pipe (Smokey Stover, Joe’s Blend, Black Satin, Liverpool - a latakia blend I haven’t been able to tolerate yet), and I’ve had several of Uhle’s including Blend 00, Irish Aromatic, Old Shoe, and recently I tried the Black Stoker I picked up.

Well….I have tried a couple of the others since I picked up Black Stoker, but going back to it each time is like a little slice of heaven. I just had the BEST smoke of my limited time with this hobby. It was awesome! I only used 5 matches, smoked for well over an hour, had cool beautiful plumes of smoke through the whole thing that were dry, cool, and downright delicious! This stuff is fantastic. I’m going to cycle through what I’ve got to see if the other stuff wasn’t as good because of my being a novice and I’ll try some new stuff, but it is this is Black Stoker is going to be the measuring stick for all the rest!!

I HATE UHLE'S!!! Every time I go to that store I end up buying new pipe tobacco. They are such wonderful people that work there. This time at the behest of Jeff and Tammara I tried Black Stoker. If you like sweet aromatics you will love this one. It is actually vanilla based but there are a few other secrets in the blend that can give it a chocolatey or some such nougat taste. Very dry and very sweet. If you like P&W's Bleeker Street or Rich's WOZ this is for you. Reminiscent of the old Bengal Mixture a true stand out amongst aromatics. Please give it a whirl. It will be worth you $4.50. 4 of 4 aromatic stars.

I picked some of this up from a local store. I was pleasntly suprised by it. the chocolate flavor is not overwhelming or barely noticable, it is just right. I am defenitly going to get this again, and explore more blends by Uhles.

I received a small sample of this recently and have smoked about five bowls. It is obviously high quality tobacco, and it smokes relatively dry and goop free and does not bite. The room note is very nice, and the flavor is good. I do detect a bit of a medicinal taste, presumably from the black cavendish, as I often pick that up right away with blends. I am giving it three stars precisely because I know there are aromatic blends that don't have this slightly artificial taste to them. It is a very nice blend and well worth trying if the description sounds interesting given the other blends you enjoy smoking.

I happen to be fortunate enough to live in Wisconsin so Uhle's blends are in great supply. I have really come to like this blend more and more as I smoke it. The room note is excellent and the pouch aroma is strong and sweet. I can't really say enough good things about this blend. I keep coming back to it. Just a really good and relaxing smoke anytime of day.

I don't like Chocolate as a topping in an aromatic, but that is not the primary reason I am giving this one one star. I also don't like relighting my pipe more than is necessary, but to some extent this is to be expected when smoking stoved blends. I don't know why, but they all seem to have problems igniting and maintaining ignition than their non-stoved counterparts.

My problem with this blend is that I am a dry smoker. I seldom pass a pipe cleaner through a pipe mid smoke, unless I am smoking one of my two Peterson System pipes, but this is a whole other level of frustration to be discussed elsewhere.

Every time and in every pipe I smoked this, gurgles came forth and I needed to run one of my thin pipe cleaners through and then relight and resume. It is just irritating and I don't like to be irritated while smoking my pipe. I like to have blissful thoughts.

As to the blend itself, the tastes of rum and chocolate are both detectable, as is that dried fruit taste that seems to develop when a tobacco is stoved. The topping will last through the end of the bowl. I know there are some who smoke wet and are forced to swab a pipe cleaner mid smoke every bowl they have, for that smoker, the high humidity emitted from this blend may not even be perceptible, but mark my words, this one smokes wetter than most.

For this, and other reasons, I could never recommend this blend.

What I would define as a solid middle of the road puffing smoke. It does not try to be something complex, nor is it so mild and effeminate it can't hold it's own.

A good buy and nice place to start if trying the out what Uhle's has to offer.
