Sweet Dublin - Sweet Dublin Vanilla.

Only a tiny proportion of the blend's Black Cavendish, unlike a lot of vanilla blends where it's nearly 100% . The majority of it's lighter brown, with a couple of yellow specks in there. The description says "a touch of vanilla", but the pouch has a strong smell of vanilla; more than a touch? I'd describe it as being more of a Mixture as opposed to a Ribbon: there's quite a few broken flakes in there.

I enjoy the first part of the smoke: the vanilla leads, and the Burley plays second fiddle. But after the first quarter the vanilla gets overtaken by a nondescript sweetness: this reduces the rating. The Black Cavendish plays only a minor role throughout, I'd prefer some more of it from a vanilla aromatic. To get any bite I have to draw my pipe fairly hard, and even then, it's not that bad. The temperature of the smoke's not too high when the pipes smoked in a relaxed fashion, but it does get hot if it's strained.

The nicotine's mild to medium in S.D.V, and the best part's the room-note: this has a lot more than just a 'touch' of vanilla to it!

If it weren't for the strange sweetness that develops I'd possibly highly recommend Sweet Dublin Vanilla, but due to this I can only somewhat recommend it.

Two Stars.
