I am not sure if Peterson and Sorensen’s Tradition Virginia Flake is still on the market. My tin is nearly nine years old. The flakes offer a sweet hay scent and are thick and loose. As a result I did not find it easy to stuff and fold so I opted for rubbing out just a bit to create a broken flake for each bowl in the tin. The tin states that the sweetness comes naturally from pressing. I don’t think that is the case as there is a topping on this flake albeit a pleasant one. There is a mixture of high and low notes, with high being the dominate one. Tradition doesn’t bite but must be respected like most Virginias. The sweetness builds throughout the smoke and has a bit of strength too, but I wouldn’t call it strong. All in all this is a pretty straight forward flake of good quality.

It's hard to review a blend that apparently has disappear from the market but this one was a total hit with me, I will note that my tin is probably been aged 6 to 8 years give or take, the flake is easy to work with i usually fold in half and stuff, easy to light and keep lit, this is stoved virginia the whole way thru I was not able to detect any flavoring but natural sweetness coming from the virginia, the nicotine level is about average, if you are not a virginia smoker this blend might be consider boring, and I would suggest to use a pipe dedicated to virginias but for a virginia smoker this is pure pipe nirvana, my only regret is that I have not been able to find any more tins so I can stock up.

A mellow and refined Virginia Flake with a mysterious topping that is unobtrusive and delicious. Whatever it is, it sure adds to the overall presentation of this unusual flake cut tobacco.

If you enjoy a little stronger Virginia fare without the leaf acting as a battering ram, put this one in your pipe!

This stuff is in fact made in germany . They hit a home run with this . I think any virgina flake smoker will enjoys this blend. I find it to be medium all the way . I think Macbaren smokers will dig this . The top note is great and very mild .... just enough to let you know it's there.I don't find it to be to hot . All around can't think of anything but good to say of it

This is a nice flake... mild, pleasant room aroma, and somewhat different taste than similar flake cut tobaccos. Perhaps the top dressing or the steam process, I like the end result!

Normally a plug cut smoker, this was a delightful change of pace for me. Dark, rich looking, albiet thin cut flakes, easy to crumble, and light, a nice pungent smoke issued forth.

I smoked this in a Radice, twin bore, oil-cured billiard and finished-off the 50 gr. in a week. I will buy another few tins of this to keep around for my occasional break from my heavier plug cut Virginia's.

Definitely worth a good try! and in the late evenings, this tobacco went nicely with room temperature brandy.

Regards, Peter ...a pipe is to be savored.

Tradition is a quite strong, partly stoved flake in the Dutch style. The slices are firm and a little on the moist side but either rub out well or will pack in a small pipe.

There is a lot like with this tobacco: plenty of strength;, a natural caramel sweetness; and a complex, multi-dimensional Virginia flavor. A little like Marlin Flake, maybe. Worth trying if you like stronger pure Virginias.

Got this based of of the reviews here, good job guys. Great looking flakes in the tin, (I got only 7, hmmm...). Perfect moisture for breaking and rubbing. Tatse was very good IMO for a morning smoke, good with a sweet tea but not coffee (too strong for the delicate flavor of this VA). Burns very slowly, not recommended for DGT as whenever I did it it was bitter and there was no improvment of flavor. Setting it down and relighting within the hour also gave bitter notes but if relit immediately after it went out didn't give the same bitterness (I have no idea why). 8 out of 10

My experience was very similar to Superhula. I found this in a smoke shop that caters to university students, who are interested in more exotic things than pipe tobacco... The flakes are well made, and rub out very easily. The tobac is moist, but not too. It took me two matches to get it going, and it has very good burning qualities. The aroma in the tin is sweet ,natural Virginia. I have no idea what they might have topped it with. (Maybe honey?)It is very discreet at any rate. The taste is sweet and toasty. There were hints of anise, but otherwise just good ,old Virginia. It will bite the living daylights out of you if you try to have your way with it, so go slow. It is a nice warm weather smoke. Addendum: As this has dried out the flavor has intensified, and is not so "watery". I find it very pleasant, and have upgraded my rating accordingly.

This was the first tobacco that I've tried under this brand name and I wasn't disappointed in this good VA tobacco. The medium to dark brown flakes are ~1"x2"x1/16" and most are still completely intact in the tin. However, they are pliable and easy packing and lighting without relighting result. I normally don't rub out my flakes. Both the tin and room aroma and the taste are quite sweet and the blender, Planta, indicates that the tobacco has been enhanced. However, whether by processing or additives this was done in moderation and the smoke remains enjoyable.

I tried this blend only because I ran out of McClelland's Anniversary and with no well-stocked tobacco store nearby I had to go to a low-rent cigarette store with the hopes that I might get lucky and find something half way decent. Well, I was successful.

Tradition is a very nice Virginia flake tobacco. I don't generally buy flake, but since this is what the store happened to have available, I figured I'd try it. I've smoked the occasional tin of Bengal Slices in the past but that's the only flake I have to compare this to. In any event, the slabs of flake in Tradition are very light, a bit dry compared to Bengal Slices, but rub out comparatively easily. It packs a sweet smell in the can. The label says "Natural sweetness, enhanced with a very distinctive aroma," which I gather means it has some flavoring added. I dispise aromatics, but the casing is extremely mild and not objectionable in this particular case.

It packs easily, lights easily, and burns quite nicely. No problems at all.

Very nice taste. Pleasant indeed and somewhat modest. This would be a good tobacco for the smoker who wants to move beyond cheez-whiz tobaccos like Captain Black, but is not yet ready for something heavier like Dunhill's Nightcap.

I tend to prefer a bit of Latikia with my Virgina to spice things up a bit, but having said that I would have no qualms about buying Tradition again.
