I just purchased a tin of S&P Black Mixture, being a connoisseur the aromatic tobaccos I will say this one is nothing more that black Cavendish with some Walnut flavoring that grandma uses in her baked cookies.

The tobacco had very little aroma when first opening the tin, it was very moist and sticky to the point one could not smoke it. I left the tin open all night long with the same results, I pack a pipe and fired it just enough to DGT the tobacco for another twelve hours with the same results.

Most likely this will end up as worm meal.

Black Mixture is nothing more than a traditional blend of all Black Cavendish tobaccos. Gooey and steamy, it has the dark, bitter sweet chocolate flavor of most leaf treated this way. Not bad, but then again nothing extraordinary. Due to the very high degree of moisture, the tobacco is hard to pack and light. On the positive side, once you manage to do it, it lasts for a long time and can smoke relatively cool. Very good for breaking in a new pipe, it is not overly sweet and does not suffuse the pipe with its flavor.

Similar to some of Stokkebye's offerings, as well as to the Lane Ltd. line, it does have the peculiarity of yielding a certain undertone resembling anise, which gives it a slightly different edge from most other Cavendish blends I have tried.

21/12/2018- I just found the tin I opened for the previous review, sixteen years later!!! Most of the moisture is gone, but the tobacco is still quite fresh. The tobacco is less goopy and the aroma is not as pungent. It is still a strong aromatic (vanilla, anise, walnut, perhaps some dark chocolate; kind of smoking a Krispy Kreme) but far more enjoyable than when originally smoked. It still takes a long time to fully light up, but once done it is a pretty good smoke. The one positive trait: this won't bite. Just watch out for the bees.
Age When Smoked: 16 years!
