Medium Mild Overwhelming Pleasant

I purchased a tin of this blend after reading about its contents on the pipesforless web-site. The components of virginia/burley with no added flavoring appealed to my taste buds. Unfortunately, this combination of my two favorite leaves was out of whack in this ready-rubbed Danish mixture.

I assure you there is added flavoring--is there a Danish blend out there without flavoring?--anyway, whatever it was, I didn't like it. And the tang that made itself known when I blew smoke from my nose certainly cleared the nasal passages.

I did not find anything of value in this blend, and chucked the tin after just one bowl. "why not give it to a friend," you ask? Because I want to keep my friends!

Dutch cavendish, made in Denmark. What more is there to say?

Sail Yellow is still the best Dutch cavendish in the market, and the only one I'll ever need.

Holger Danske - Daily Mixture Classic.

I opened this more out of curiosity than want. Daily Mixture, to me, suggested a probable shag cut, boring blend. So, I took it out of my stash, and from the moment I peeked into the tin I realised I'd made an incorrect prediction.

The blend's presented not as a standard ribbon, but is a coarsely broken flake. The nose from the mix suggests only a VERY mild topping/sweetness, but other than this it just smells like a VaBur. Because the tobacco's concealed inside a polythene bag in the tin the moisture's how I like it: a little damp but smokable.

In the smoke I can't detect much of an added flavour, apart from a very subtle sweetness. The majority of the smoke goes to the Virginia and Burley. It tastes high quality, though. I'd describe it as an even split: doughy, sweet, Virginia, with the same amount of nutty, robust Burley. It burns nicely, to a pale ash, giving a mid temperature smoke, without bite.

Nicotine: medium. Room-note: pleasant.

Daily Mixture? A pleasant blend which would make a good 'All Day' smoke. Three stars:

Recommended.

Deep woodsy flavor with a citrusy overtone and not too sweet-wine like in body and aroma (think Merlot). The Virginias and Burleys never overpower each other. Not for the novice or aromatic smoker. A fellow review said they found DM bland. I disagree. With this blend, one should look for the great nuasences it offers rather than firewoks. Too often aros take away from the natural flavor of the leaf. If you never smoked a "non-aromatic" ( not be confused with English which is a mix of straight tobacco w/ no flavorings-Latakia/Orientals added), then this may not be your cup of tea. Non-aromatics are lightly seasoned rather than heavily cased. If you want to venture from aromatics this is a great blend to start with. I prefer cobs over briar, but briars also give a good smoke. Behaves very well and doesn't overheat. Non-aros should be sipped. Nice find. And yes, you can use this as your "daily mixture". As always before smoking a new blend, and I'm a stickler about this, scrub your pipe out first and clean the shank chamber in between smokes with a q-tip. This will help prevent moisture build up and bite. And always remember to rotate your pipes. You'll get longer life out of them, less bite and smoother smokes.

I understand why many hate this blend but I seem to like it somewhat. It has a good balance between the blended virginia and burley, perhaps more or less 50/50 which gives it good body while not getting hot from too much virginia; That's hard to find these days. Then there is that flavor. It's sort of dark semi-sweet fig fruity with something of a piquant edge that is it's most detracting feature; Kinda like the bitter elements of wild berries. It can be reduced if the blend is dried out and then rehydrated which is what I recommend. Also, the flavor has something of a cola-like element. Despite how thoroughly it is flavored it is rather dry like a dutch cavendish in a ready-rubbed cut plug. I think there is a niche for more blends processed like this. What I like about it most of all is it represents a more rounded and sweeter burley-ish cut plug then is the norm. I find most other burley tobaccos a bit flat. The closest I can liken this tobacco to is the bastard child of Mac Baren's Norwood and Rattrays Marlin Flake, if you can imagine that.

Pretty nice VaBur. The Virginias are mildly sweet hay with a note of citrus. The Burley is earthy and mildly nutty. The Virginias lead by just a little. A fast pace will get you a little harshness on the retrohale. A moderate pace will give you a smooth tasty smoke. Not complex, but a pleasant smoke nonetheless.

Mild to medium in body and taste. No added flavoring detected. Burns very well.

"Daily Mixture", as this blend is called was not in my opinion a tobacco you would want to smoke on a daily basis. I was hoping the blend would not be so harsh on the tongue as well. Overall it was not too terribly bad but I found the mixture rather bland and unstatisfying. I don't think this tobacco is what pipe smokers today are looking for. When I have the opportunity to sit down and enjoy a smoke this is not what I would choose to pack my bowl with.
