I believe I’m correct in saying this is Canada’s offering to match Peterson’s Old Dublin, which was introduced with the change of the plain packaging laws.
With that being said, I’ll write the review in comparison with Old Dublin.
The smell of the tobacco is strong. It reminds me of something we used to feed the horses. Quite unpleasant, there’s little in the way of hay and grass.
It burns as well as Old Dublin, and is possibly a touch or two sweeter, with deeper earth notes. It isn’t too bad as a match blend, but it definitely isn’t identical.
Old Dublin is, along with EMP, Nightcap, MM965, an English blend I describe as tasting “dirty”.
It’s difficult to describe, but to me it’s an unpleasant taste which Bengal Slices, Plum Pudding, and a few others including straight Latakia or Orientals don’t have. Vincenzo Green also has this taste.
So, it’s a shade deeper and earthier, a little harsher, and possibly a touch sweeter than Old Dublin, but all in all a good match blend for the Canadian market.
