Sutliff Tobacco Company English
(2.50)
Sutliff English is a remarkable combination of African, Turkish, and Virginia tobaccos with the smoky Cyprian leaf added in which the latakia does not overwhelm the blend. It may well be the smoothest latakia blend ever to be presented to the pipe smoker.

The smoky, woody, earthy, mildly buttery sweet, barely spicy, almost medium floral and somewhat sour Orientals are the main component. The smokey, woody, earthy, musty sweet Cyprian latakia is a secondary player. The grassy, earthy, lightly citrusy, medium level dark fruity Virginias compete with the latakia for attention. The strength and nic-hit are closer to mild than it is to medium, and the taste is a step more obvious than that. Won’t bite or get harsh. Burns cool and clean at a moderate pace with a mostly consistent, lightly sweet and more dry, savory campfire flavor that translates to the lightly lingering after taste. Requires an average number of relights, and easily burns to ash. An all day smoke that carries just enough punch to hold your interest in repeat smokes. Two and a half stars.

A very light English. The tin note was pleasant. It was not overpowering with any particular component, but a lot of Kia was there. And the room note was a soft, basic English blend. The flavoring was very soft as well. Frankly, almost too soft. But it was still very nice. If you’re looking for a very light English, this is right up your alley.
