Kontor-Tabak No. 8 Ready Rubbed (RR)

(3.00)
Because of the ready rubbed cut this natural mixture develops a mellow, juice smoke of Orientals and Virginia. Just as with No. 8 this expressive bond of classical tobaccos is amplified by Kentucky and refined with perique and latakia. Full bodied, medium strength it offers lovers of English mixtures a reliable smoking pleasure. Its uncomplicated smoking behaviour is predestined for medium and big sized bowls. This "feature-length" tobacco has a lot to offer. In its room note the flowery, smoky Orientals dominate and are extended by the finesse of the seasoning tobaccos, spreading a luxury complacency. Who likes Kontor-Tabak No. 8 will love this!

I got to sample this blend. After No. 33 impressed me very much, and I found No. 4, 6 and 13 to be very solid blends, I was eager to try this blend. Kontor has a small assortiment of house-blends, but those they have were all excellent so far! Often overlooked brand here in Germany, but they deserve some love.

Unburnt aroma is unique and exotic. Flowery, herbal, ethereal, with some vegetable-ish aroma to it (think green tomatoes maybe). A slight hint of woodsy smoke accompanies the tin note. The ready rubbed flakes have rich colors, ranging from bright-brown, red-brown to black and are well crafted. My sample baggie came quite dry, crips if you will - just as I like my tobaccos to be!

From the first puffs on a very exotic aroma develops. The vegetable-ish aroma is present. It may come from the Orientals used? It's a very unique note that I haven't tasted in any blend before, yet I like it! Quickly the Virginias develop a slightly fruity, smoothly sweet aroma of honey and caramel. The Orientals come along as flowery, herbal and ethereal goodness and are richly present in the smoke. The Latakia, Kentucky and Perique are minor additions to me. There's a slight hint of Latakia-esque smokiness, which makes for some depth and pleasant spice. So does the Kentucky, which adds some nice body and depth as well. The Perique may be responsible for the mild fruitiness and surely do add some of their charme to the spiciness this blend holds.

A base of excellent, rich and refined Orientals and Virginias is seasoned by some very mild additions of Latakia, Kentucky and Perique, resulting in an unique, exotic tasting and smooth as silk smoke. Spicy, mild sweetness, refined complexity. Very well blended, I like its natural and exotic aroma and the Virginias do remind me quite a bit of the ones used in Kontor No. 33, which is a superb blend of various red Virginias.
