Lane Limited Black Toasted Cavendish
(2.00)
Lane Limited's Toasted Black Cavendish is fundamentally their BCA before the added top note. Premium Green River Burley is cased and toasted to produce a cool-smoking tobacco with a smooth brown sugar note. It can be an enjoyable repast by itself, but it works well as a blending component when you're looking to reduce the temperature of a blend while adding a subtle sweetness.

Lane Limited - Black Toasted Cavendish.
When the name of a blend contains the words Black and Cavendish what usually springs to mind? A damp, jet black, mixture, which produces a heavy, vanilla laden, smoke. That isn't the case here.
It isn't black, but dark brown. It's very dry, crunchy, so wouldn't do well in long term cellaring. The cut's fairly coarse.
The smoke retains a decent amount from the pre-cavendished Burley. Toasty, raw, and rugged. But it's given a honey sweetness by the processing, and also a very mild Kentucky type note from the toasting. Because of the dryness the burn's abhorrent; fast and hot.
Nicotine: mild to medium. Room-note: I don't like.
Black Toasted Cavendish? Somewhat recommended.

Lane Ltd. Black Toasted Cavendish is just what the name says, nothing more and nothing less. No toppings or casings are added, yet this has a sweet pouch aroma similar to molasses. In the pipe, this well-behaved product burns fairly quickly but cooler than expected; tongue bite may or may not be a problem depending on how carefully it is smoked. Smokes rather wet; I had a bit of gurgle after 1/3 bowl.
This would be a wonderful mixer, but on its own it is fairly boring. It does smell nice in the room, tastes sweet in the pipe and burns well on a single match all the way to the bottom with careful tamping. Note: Don't overload your bowl or pack this to firmly; it needs room to breathe, to avoid needing multiple relights or smoking hot. Left alone for the most part, it burns very well with minimal tamping. I am rating this a 2, as it is a simple, delicious albeit monochromatic aromatic tobacco. I will keep it onhand to blend into other tobaccos, but I don't think I'll smoke this otherwise. Just not enough complexity, flavor depth or mouth feel to repeat.
