Drucquer & Sons Blend 805

(4.00)
The most popular blend at the store - made with Latakia, Turkish Djubec, and three types of Virginia.
Notes: Expressly blended for the connoiseur's palate, Blend 805 has long been our most popular English style blend. This mixture will give unsurpassed enjoyment to those who know the pleasure to be derived from mellowed near east tobacco. Slightly richer than Trafalgar and Red Lion. And possessed of a magical complexity which has made it a favorite the world over. Blend 805 was named so because that was its private blend number when it was first blended experimentally in 1965.

This very Oriental forward blend offers the characteristics you’d expect from the several varietals in the mix: buttery creamy sweetness, wood, earth, some spice and a little foralness, along with some dry, bordering on sourness notes. I think Smyrna, Macedonia, Izmir, and a touch of yenidje are present. The grassy, citrusy, earthy and dark fruit sweet Virginias are supporting players. The smoky, woody, musty sweet Cyprian latakia is in the background most of the time. The strength level is between medium and strong with a fullness of taste that never weakens. The nic-hit is medium. No chance of bite or harshness. Burns cool and clean at a moderate pace with a deeply rich, tangy mildly sweet, and rather savory consistent flavor from top to bottom. Leaves little dampness in the bowl, and requires an average number of relights. Has a pleasantly lingering after taste. Not an all day smoke.
