The red Virginia is mildly tangy, earthy, lightly woody, with a fair amount or dark fruit, a hint of spice, and a touch of citrus. The strength is a step or so past mild, while the taste levels in the center of mild to medium. The nic-hit is mild. Won’t bite or get harsh. Burns cool, clean, and a tad fast with a very consistent flavor. Leaves little dampness in the bowl, and requires an average number of relights. Has a short lived, pleasant after taste and room note. Very monochromatic on its own, but if you want a light, all day red Va., this is fine for that. Does better as a mixer, which is the intention anyway.

Not my thing at all. Though it is a straight blending component I still found it very one dimensional and, for me, the flavour was just plain unpleasant. Slightly sour, musty and pungent heavy woodiness and damp earth and can get quite hot. The smoke dries my mouth out and leaves a very dry and astringent aftertaste. This is absolutely only good as an additional blending component for pipes. Quite a coarse cut, the coarsest I've seen in any D&R and a hefty nicotine hit.
