(3.00)
The fine, English way. Highly complex, old English mixure of finest African Virginias, white burley, choice Orientals, some perique and 20% latakia. Diversified tasting experience with power, color and delicate sweetness. Highly digestible and full of diversity.

If you're expecting a "normal english" with strong presence of Latakia this will disappoint - or pleasantly suprise you! I got told that "back in the days" the old folks didn't like strong Latakia presence, but only Latakia applied in a seasoning way, maybe this is why he calls it an "Old english mixture".

The scent from the baggy is very woodsy, earthy, spicy and sweet, with mild Latakia smokiness present. The tobacco itself is rather bright, from beige to brown with black ribbons. Curly-Coins with jetblack cores (Latakia or Perique?) and the look of the tobacco is just as intriguing as the unburnt aroma is.

In the pipe the composition makes for an Balkan/Oriental-like smoke. I say "Balkan/Oriental-**like**", because the Orientals aren't the lead for me.. well.. I don't find any tobacco to take the lead tbh, but the taste is very dry, very woodsy and earthy, and decently ethereal and has this "Balkan-y" feeling to me. It feels like a smooth Balkan, but with the burly body of the Burley that's in the blend. (no pun intended) Earthy, mildly sweet Virginias, nutty and earthy Burley, ethereal, nutty and woodsy, aromatic Orientals, seasoned with perique and latakia.

Whilst the smoke is mainly woodsy, earthy, and smokey-spicy with some ethereal-charme, it has some pleasant nuances, such as a mild nuttiness, some hits of leather and a mildly sweet backbone. Very well blended, no ingridient pops out too much for me, just a very genuine and charming smoke. Not overly complex, but enough to keep one interested. Not an "Aroma-Bomb", but with very fine nuances and a solid, honest - and foremost most natural tobacco taste that'll appeal to the purist!

Definetly a favorite of mine, if Latakia-mixtures "back in the days" were like this one, those old farts must've had some style and taste! 😉 If you look for a smooth, pure tobacco with a spicy Latakia undertone, this is for you!
