Motzek PSoG (Club Blend)

(3.00)
A mixture from 70% sweet Virginias, 10% earthy Virginias and 15% black cavendish. Spiced with some burley and a bit of perique, this blend has a enticing style. A great mixture for friends of unspoiled tobaccos.
Notes: "PSoG" stands for "Pipe Smokers of Germany", this blend is the club blend of PSoG.

A great mixture to start the day! For the last days I smoked this as my after-breakfast-smoke, because it's mellow, sweet and yet tobacco-y enough to keep me interested and satisfyied. "PSoG" stands for "Pipe Smokers of Germany" pipe club.

Opening the bag, which is filled with mostly bright- and medium-brown to red-ish ribbons and highlighted by some black speckles, I perceive a decently (honey-)sweet scent that has some minor spice and decent tobacco aroma to it. Just very slightly nutty-earthy note, an a whiff of sourness is lurking in the back.

Smoldering in the pipe it shows its All-day merits. Sugary, but not overly sweet, slightly citrusy Virginias form the base and are not only balanced, but enriched by the earthy Virginias, which in interplay with the whiff of Burley in this blend (2,5%) create a somewhat nutty-earthy flavor to lend this mixture some spice. The Perique is only a minor addition (also 2,5%) and adds very minor sourness and tweaks up the spice a bit to achieve a decent, but satisfying spice in this blend. A toasty, almost fermented dimension is added by the (unflavored) black Cavendish that rounds off the blend to a really perfect and easily enjoyable smoke. I'd categorize this as a Virginia-Plus blend.

Mellow, but with the perfect amount of spice to be digestible in the morning, and adding some tartness to the smoke. Sugary sweet, but balanced by earthy and nutty aroma to also appeal to the smokers who prefers some tang in his smoke. Not overly complex, but rich and "deep" enough to satisfy and keep one interested. Really the definition of an "All-Day-Smoke".

I think this will appeal to a lot of different smokers. Lovers of natural pipe tobacco will adore it for its mild natural sweetness and the decent spice. Aromatic lovers who want to lean towards more natural tobacco will like this as a perfect introduction into natural pipe tobaccos, but also like a sweetish aroma and a nice room note.

3,5-stars! Not a "spectacular blend", but a very solid blend that I think will work as an uncomplicated and solid as rock smoke for both the beginner and the seasoned pipe smoker.
