Cornell & Diehl Blue Ridge
(3.00)
A bedrock of stoved red Virginias combines with a hearty helping of black Cavendish, Turkish leaf, and Louisiana Perique for a smoking experience every bit as rich and complex as old Shenandoah.

The mildly tangy, dark fruity, earthy, lightly sugary stoved red Virginias form the base of the blend. The dry, sweet and sour, fairly floral, woody, earthy Turkish plays between being a condiment and a supporting player. The spicy, raisiny, plummy perique is a background player. The unsweetened black cavendish adds a smoothing quality to the mix. The strength is just short of being mild to medium, while the nic-hit sits squarely on that level. The taste is a step closer to medium than it is to mild, mostly due to the Turkish. No chance of bite or harshness. Burns cool and clean at a moderate pace with a very consistent flavor all the way through as it easily burns to ash. Leaves little dampness in the bowl, and requires an average number of relights. Has a pleasant, short lived after taste. Can be an all day smoke.

Cornell & Diehl - Blue Ridge.
I popped this the other day, and didn't have time to write my review, but, I like it. I always find it tricky when the only review to date is by JimInks, he's always covered everything! But, for what it's worth, here's my experience:
It's a coarse ribbon, mainly medium brown, and was too wet when I opened it. The tin-note is fresh, and a little fruity.
The most conspicuous flavour of the smoke is a sweet, fruity one. This, from the Virginias, forms the prominent flavour. The Perique stokes up this fruity trait, with some plums, and figs. I don't get much from the Turkish, nor the black Cavendish. It burns well, not necessitating much attention.
Nicotine: mild to medium. Room-note: pleasant.
A nice smoke that deserves a recommendation:
Three stars.

Got this sample from Martin "Over A Pipe" on youtube. Nice blend of stoved reds playing with the turkish. The perique plays in the background till you get deeper into a bowl. NO Bite. Was kinda wet. Dried well this smoked amazing. Wet, it had a slight topped flavor going on but it was really mild and didn't transfer to the smoke. Would need to sample alot more to pin it down. The sweet/sour/tang/wood/slight sugar/earthy etc really got along together.
If you enjoy red VA and oriental/turkish this is worth trying.

This is one that I bought from my local shop based on the tin alone. It is part of the Appalachian Trail series and I would like to try the rest. Opening the tin there is a course ribbon/ broken flake, light brown in color. The tin note is chocolatey, hay-like, nutty, dark fruity and bready. The tobacco packs well and may need a short dry time.
Once lit this is a rewarding smoke. The Virginias are semi-sweet, bready and borderline chocolately. The Perique is its usual dark fruity self. Personally I'm hard pressed to find the Turkish leaf. But I can see the Cavendish adding a toastiness that adds to everything else. Thus smokes like a refined VaPer.
This isn't a blend that will wow you. It's the kind of thing you puff on all day, without getting bored. The nicotine is a even medium, the taste is a medium. This blend is consistent and good at what it says it will do. I wasn't sure if I'd like this at first but I've really come around.
