Wilke Pipe Tobacco Wilke No. 531
(2.00)
Notes: I have had many requests for an Virginia based English blend with no latakia, so I'm re-introducing an old Wilke blend #531 (which happens to be Edwin Wilke's birthday). This is a fine blend of Virginia, burley and just the right amount of perique.

The grassy, tart and tangy citrusy Virginia forms the base of the blend. The burley is nutty, earthy, and woody with just a little molasses and toast, and is the most obvious component. The perique provides a little spice, plums and raisins in the background. The strength, taste and nic-hit are mild. Won’t bite or get harsh, but does sport a few small rough edges. Burns cool and clean and a little fast with a slightly inconsistent, but routine flavor that suffers from lack of depth in all departments. In the last quarter of the bowl, some of that flavor weakens, reducing it to the verge of being dull. Has a plain, short lived after taste, and pleasant room note. Leaves almost no dampness in the bowl, and requires few relights. Can be an all day smoke.
