Extra-long matured, sweet, spicy, meaty, a genuine heavy weight. This power pack can be mixed into all sorts of mixtures, but can also be smoked pure (for those who like it heavy).

Straight Burley. I was told at DanTobacco that they got this batch of leaf so wet they had to emergency-dry it by toasting, then had to rest it for over a year. Then, they had no idea what to do with it, as it is quite a bit stronger than what they use in their usual blends. So they put it out as a blending tobacco.

Opening the tin, I can believe that. The tin note is wine-ish, almost like an aged VA, but with that chocolate overtone betraying the leaf as, well, a Burley. Long ribbon cut, everything in the expected medium brown colour range, stuffing easy, use narrow bowls or it'll burn hot.

The taste is sweet, with some cocoa notes in there. Room note very typical Burley, chocolate and cocoa, rather dry.

Apart from that, respect this stuff. It's not exactly beginners' fare. Lots of Vitamin N. Very tasty, sweet-cocoa-chocolate. It's sold as a blending tobacco, but I don't want to blend it, really.

I may be just a little high on Nic. Sorry. Great stuff.

To be honest: When I ordered a tin each of Torben Dansk's Burley, Burley Maduro and U.S. Kentucky I was expecting some of those rather sweet, cocoa/chocolate-y Burleys that are the only kind of Burley you'll be able to get ahold over here..., think Solani's Aged Burley Flake or Nasvhille County by HU - rather sweet Burleys! Not saying it's a bad thing, I love both of them, but what I'm looking for at this very moment, are Burleys like those C&D uses... earthy, barely sweet, if at all, with that slight tart-nuttiness and no chocolate at all - natural Burley, ye' know? ;-)

Opening the Burley Maduro I was very happy with what was in the tin! Only a very mild note of chocolate tickles your nose, but moreso the rich, charming qualities of a natural and stout Burley! Earthy-dry, woodsy, with this delicate and mild nuttiness and barely sweet - love it! You can sense there's a hint of cocoa-sauce, yet exceptionally mild applied! The description of "the_german" as "wine-like" I find very fitting!

What's present in the smoke is the rich and full-bodied, earthy and mildly nutty character of a exceptionally tasty burley, which also has a smooth "toastiness" to it due to the processing. There's a bare hint of dark cocoa (think 70-80% cocoa chocolate bar!), that also imparts a slight sweetness to round rough edges and keep things in balance - but it's very slight and light, only a background-nuance to me! It also offers this slight sharpness I love about burleys.

Yup... this is exactly the kind of Burley I was looking for! And I do know it's intended to be blended... but - just as the_german - I can't help but to smoke this sublime weed as a standalone smoke! It's stout, rich in aroma and very pleasing on the palate. You like stout, natural Burley? You'll feel home with this one! ;-)

Ps.: Prefer small, yet preferably, but not neccesarily wide bowls, say 5-15 minutes smokes! A small cob, a shag-pipe.. rub the long ribbons a tad for better packing, and enjoy a short, yet intense flavor experience, even if you're not that much used to the Vitamin-N!
