On the pouch it says that this is 100% Greek tobacco, now if that is true it’s only natural that Greek Burley should be quite different, but it still has Burley aroma characteristics like chocolate and cigar leaf.

It comes in dark brown wide cut ribbons which seem very fresh and very natural– is it sun cured? Pouch aroma is quite nice, reminds me of cocoa milk and sweet spices all natural tobacco aromas! Moisture is just perfect to light and get going. Green River produces abundant fluffy smoke of medium strength, weight and medium plus aroma and flavor. Cocoa aroma translates directly to the smoke as do the sweet spices. I can also detect cigar leaf aromas, raisins and walnuts - it almost smells like a Christmas cake. Very good up until before the middle of the bowl where it becomes harsh, not strong, but harsh, meaning it bites a lot and becomes bitter. By the way bite is something I did not encounter with any of the other three tobaccos of the Epos series (Virginia, Smyrna or Basma) however I smoked them. It burns completely to a fine white ash and does not burn particularly hot, although hotter than any of the other three Epos tobaccos. Nicotine is medium plus and room aroma is pleasant (for smokers).

Now, smoking Green River straight is not an option for me as the tongue bite is unpleasant, still it blends well with the other three tobaccos of the Epos series as it adds a tang to these mellow tobaccos and is very compatible aromatically. Would I recommend it? Yes, although it is not an indispensable component in my blending creations. To smoke straight, on the other hand, in no way no matter how nice it tastes and smells because of the bite. Taste wise it's a fantastic all-natural Burley, but I get this bite which I cannot tolerate...

I also tried it with 20% Perique and counter intuitively the bite was considerably less and it produced a bold and flavorful smoke.

good evening gentlemen. tonight's review is something a bit different from my usual line up. This is epos green river by a Greek company called wolfway, it is marketed as a 100% handmade product. Basically all this is, is just pure unadulterated burley, nothing at all added, this is as pure as pipe tobacco that will get, that is unless you make you own.

opening the pouch the first thing that hits you is the thickness of the leaf, coarsely shredded wide ribbons with a few lightly pressed chunks here and there, and when I say lightly pressed I mean lightly pressed, you can break them apart easily.

it comes in a 100g Ziploc and perfect moisture. it is just earthy nutty slightly chocolatey goodness all day long, in fact aroma wise it is strikingly similar to Prince Albert. packing is a doddle, moisture is slightly drier than I like but it proves no problems so, in a well used cob I pack a little tighter than normal and a touch of flame a tamp and another touch of flame and it is off to the races.

Whereas the aroma is strikingly similar to Prince Albert this is where the similarities end. The flavour is really amped up, it's a lovely nutty and earthy smoke, the familiar chocolate notes pop up here and there and there is a nice cigar like deepness to it. body wise it is surprisingly potent, it isn't coniston cut plug strong but you know you have had a smoke of this one. mid way down the bowl, the nutty and cigar notes tone down slightly and incomes a nice woody almost musty note, it isn't off putting, I think it adds a nice dimension to the smoke. it does have a nice bit of sweetness to the blend here and there but not fake sweet, but tobacco sweet. it's not a complex smoke by any means, but it does have some nice dimensions to it which adds up to a rewarding smoke.

Room note won't win you any none smoking friends, it is quite potent and like Prince Albert it does give off a hefty volume of smoke, so maybe one to smoke outside if you are in company or your spouse isn't a fan of your smoking. strength, as said above it is surprisingly potent, it isn't overwhelming but it won't leave you thinking you have smoked hot air.

All in all this is a really nice smoke, it is only available in Greece so it may prove difficult to get hold of but if you happen come across it i would recommend for those who like tobacco as pure as the day it was picked. it is in a sense a Greek version of Prince Albert albeit with much more amped up flavours and quite a considerable kick. in fact if you are in Greece and Prince Albert is your daily bread you won't go wrong with this.

As a little side note the shop I bought this from, I was looking for amphora when I spotted this and picked it up, the lady in the shop was as pleased as punch and strongly recommended this to me, saying her old timer regulars smoked it like it was going out of fashion, that and a bit of patriotic spirit, all i can say is the local old timers know a good thing when they find it.

Nice cocoa-like burley tin note. The taste almost reminds me of cigars and is medium to full. Pure tobacco, burns quickly though. It is good, but somewhat boring if I light a big bowl. Can be mixed easily with the other epos tobaccos. Somewhat recommended, two to three stars.

Well this one troubles me quite the deal. Even though it smells and tastes very pleasant , cocoa and walnut like, I find it quite difficult to smoke it as it is. The tongue bite seems to be unavoidable ,when smoked alone and turns kinda bitter half bottom. Trying some mixing with other blends of the Epos series is mostly recommended for this natural tobacco.

This is a single variety tobacco, straight Burley. It is advertised as 100% handmade Greek tobacco and I do not have reasons to doubt that it is true. I know form discussions with their official retailer in Thessaloniki that the company originates in the city of Xanthi, a small city in North Greece with a long tradition in tobacco cultivation. They are now based in Athens. Since I smoke it for some time, and this is a rather new company, I noticed that over time they improved their process significantly. The moisture is perfect, the pouch smells amazing when opened and it keeps its aroma and condition much longer than most of the other tobaccos I use. The taste and smell is -what i understand as- classic Burley, chocolate, walnut, cocoa and earthy. It has a cigar like taste that I find interesting. It is a bit harsh to smoke alone though, but i guess this is a matter of taste. I have the habit of offering my friends, smokers and non smokers, to smell my tobaccos. This tobacco ranks in the top 3. Most of them find hard to believe that this is actually a pure tobacco with no added aroma.

I really do not like the packaging, the plastic ziplock pouch. There is room for improvement there.

I smoke it for two years now and I always have it on stock. I smoke it almost always blended, but then again, I rarely smoke anything straight as I buy it. I prefer to make my mixture each time I smoke.

I highly recommend this tobacco, especially for those who favor non aromatics and do their own blending.

Pure Burley from Wolfway.

Opening the plastic pouch you're met with an instant smell of cocoa, followed by a bit of hay and a hint of mustiness reminiscent of the inside of a humidor. The tobacco is ribbon cut, and the leaf is fairly thick but soft and supple. Overall it is a pleasure to simply touch the ribbons and take in the smell.

It burns cool, has some cocoa, some spice and some sweetness. It is not a complex smoke, but it is a very clean and pure one. A couple of hints of cigar here and there.

I smoked about a third of the 100g pouch straight and it was a very enjoyable experience every time, however when I blended it 1:1 with Wolfway's pure Virginia ribbon did the experience come together. This is a perfect tobacco for blending in my opinion, blended with the Virginia it gave it enough oomph and body to satisfy my need for heavier tastes, while giving it the opportunity to give it's sweetness out. Very nice blending indeed.

So overall, a very high quality tobacco which is perfectly good to smoke as it is, but one that can also elevate other blends or single leaf. I also blended it very successfully with the Wolfway Virginia and MacBaren Vanilla Cream, in fact I'm running out of this blend and will need to get more.

3 stars as it is, 4 as a blending component.

P.S. I didn't find it becoming bitey or bitter past the halfway mark.
