Ole Shenandoah Summer Brandy Berry (Appalachian Berry)

(2.86)
The third entry in the Ole Shenandoah series is Appalachian Berry. The blend is predominantly black cavendish made with premium quality Green River burley. A modicum of bright Virginia is added to make the blend easy to keep lit. It has a robust berry flavor added that gives off an amazing room note, but comes through gently on the palate. Ole Shenandoah Appalachian Berry is easily one of the most pleasant aromatic tobaccos we've ever tried!

The Green River burley is processed into black cavendish, though you hardly notice it except for a little earth, nuts and some sugar. The bright Virginia sends a whisper of grass and citrus. The berry topping sublimates the tobaccos, and has a little depth. Has very little nicotine. Won’t bite or get harsh. Burns cool and clean at just below a moderate pace as the tobacco is a little moist. Has a consistent flavor. Leaves a little moisture in the bowl, and needs a few relights. Has a decent after taste, and can be an all day smoke.

It advertises Berry and that's what you get. It smells great in the tin, slightly damp to the touch. Smoked several times and notices that despite the slight dampness of the tobacco, absolutely no bite, and it's a tobacco that burns to a white ash. Tastes as described and not candy sweet like a sugar injection, but more like a berry fruit sweetness. Told the room note is rather pleasant. "Cool" smoke and flavor. Will buy again and would recommend.

I had fun tasting all of the Ole Shenandoa blends (easily gotten at pipesandcigars.com). They have great tin art and really nicely put together aromatics with crisp, tobacco taste, yet with aromatic agents that are not too sweet. Lane makes these blends.

I've never had (that I know of) Appalachian Berries before, so, I don't know if this blend is true to form. I do know that it has some fairly stout Burley and a whisper of quality Virginia mixed in for an all day type aromatic smoke that was actually suited for my evening after dinner dessert needs. No calories either!

Berry good indeed! Black Cavendish, Virginia and a shot of Burley make for a good smoke. By far the best smoke in this series for my money. Sweet tin note brings to mind fresh wild black berries, and this carries over in the flavor as well. No bite here for me, just a pleasant fruity smoke. Good room note will garner positive comments even from non smokers of the pipe. The blend is quality tobacco and quality blending. Will grab more of this in my next order.

There has been a great deal of positive or neutral reviews of this tobacco. But, to me, this is a cheap blend with casing and aroma which may leave a strange taste and may ghost your pipe for a while. While I like aromatic blends for a change, such as Eileen's Dream, Captain Black Copper or Royal or even Sir Walter Raleigh, this one's berry flavor seems too much. As other reviewers say, the berry flavor is very strong and suppresses the taste of tobacco to the point that you seem to smoke dry berries mixed with some light tobacco or the kind. The nicotine amount is low (which is not a bad thing) and it doesn't bite (which is very good), but I didn't feel smoking tobacco! The blend reminds me of smoking (once) some cheap, full of flavor, creamy stuff they sell for waterpipes (hookas). Didn't enjoy it.

This has a VERY strong aroma of berries. Rather than smelling like a specific berry, it smells like the intended medley.

The taste is not as strong as the smell, but it is there for sure. It definitely tastes of berry, more strongly on the retrohale, and I can taste a bit of the burley nuttiness as well. It is reminiscent of hookah as far as the flavor level goes. The flavor is distinct but light, and sweet, but a natural sweetness. I occasionally tasted something like vanilla and it reminded me of a dessert like a parfait.

This is very refreshing, particularly suited for warm weather.

I found this gave off more smoke when just sitting in the pipe than I usually see, and the tobacco burned to a fine white ash.

The Ole Shenandoah line has produced some good quality aromatics, and Appalachian Berry is no exception. Wonderful tin note and room note. Burns well with few relights. The berry casing masks the tobacco, but that is not uncommon with aromatics. I do pick up a little on the Virginia. So many berry blends tend to have an acidic quality, this one does not. A great all day smoke.
