Ole Shenandoah Appalachian Harvest may well be the most pleasantly aromatic blend you'll ever try. Golden, sweet, Virginias are blended with slowly-steamed black cavendish and topped off with the richest note of raspberry flavor available. The room note is nothing short of astounding, and the flavor is rich without being overly sweet.

Ole Shenandoah - Appalachian Harvest.

One of the blends I purchased from a new Ebayer I found ever since UK Ebay has now adjusted the rules to permit tobacco sales. I reviewed Planta Anno MMX (After Dinner Mixture) yesterday and found it thoroughly disgusting so decided to opt for another aromatic to try and rid my palate, and pipe, of the dismay caused by MMX. As it states Aromatic for blend type I thought I'd roll with this.

It arrives in one of the old fashioned, shallow, 50g tins. It isn't like one of the new Dunhill 50g kegs! Although there's no room for the blend to breathe there's no problems with the moisture. The blend includes an equal amount of each: black, light brown, dark brown.

The smoke has the flavour of rich, ripe Virginias, with some of the creaminess of black Cavendish; the ripe Virginias lead. The added flavouring has been done lightly; it gives some zestiness, but doesn't take over. The burn from it's consistent, even, steady, and generates a very cool, bite free, smoke.

Nicotine: mild. Room-note: nice.

Appalachian Harvest? A good, semi-aromatic, blend. Three stars:

Recommended.

This is a winner. An aromatic that delivers flavor throughout the smoking experience. With a very pleasant room note and a tin note that actually matches the flavor of the tobacco, I don't know how this isn't a top-rated blend. The tin price is inexpensive, too.

Received a sample of Appalachian Harvest in my TinSociety.com box this month. I had wanted to try one of their blends so I was glad to get the chance

The bag (tin) note is very berry forward. Description says Raspberry so I'll believe them.

A little moist in the bag it was it easy to load and surprisingly easy to keep lit without any effort.

Flavor wise the berry is the front. Dont ask me what tobaccos are in there I couldn't taste them. NOT in a bad way, just full of that berry flavor from light to ash.

It leaves a little bit of moisture in the pipe as could be expected, but I didn't feel any tongue bite even when I pushed it a little.

For an aromatic, its quite good. I think its comparable (or better) than Devils Holiday or even the Planta blends.

Mild to Medium Medium Medium Very Pleasant

The tin note that fills my nostrils upon opening leaves me wondering if I should eat it or smoke it. It is a sweet fruity aroma with raspberry standing out above the rest. The moisture content is nearly perfect. Not too wet, not too dry, and not so overly top-flavored as to be sticky. The cut of the blend is varied and pleasing to the eye; and it packs excellently in the bowl. It lights easily and the fruity note of the tin follows to the palate with that raspberry once again coming out on top. The flavor is sweet without being too sweet and I experience no gurgling in the stem. The blend burns well and evenly, not requiring an aggravating amount of relighting. The ash is fine and dry with a minimal amount of moisture left in the bottom of the bottom of the bowl. As a big fan of aromatic blends I have to rank this one as one of my favorites. Excellent flavor and outstanding room note without a great amount of tongue bite and harshness. What’s not to love? Excellent smoke that can be thoroughly enjoyed from start to finish. Highly recommend!
