Murray Sons & Co, Ltd Murray's 1A Linfield

(3.60)
Murray's 1A Linfield is as traditional as an English style blend gets. A good amount of dark, smoky, Cyprian latakia is joined by select bright Virginia and zesty Orientals to create a true connoisseur's latakia blend. Wonderful after a nice meal or just before bedtime, this is a rich, cool, and smoky delight.

The rich, smokey, musty woody sweet Cyprian latakia is a star component with some support from the other tobaccos. The grassy/hay-like, citrusy Virginia forms the base of the blend. The dry, woody sweet and sour Orientals underscore the experience, and sports a light spice note. The nic-hit is just past the mild level. Won’t bite, and has no harsh or weak spots. Burns reasonably well and clean, though the flavor has a little inconsistency after the half way point, and the finish has a mild musty sourness. Will burns to ash. Requires few relights, and leaves little moisture in the bowl. More of a two and a half star work and play smoke.

A very nice English. Though the smoky, woody Lat leads this is in no way a Lat bomb. The Orientals aren't far behind with very nice notes of sour wood and buttery spice. The Virginias hold down the fort with a fair amount of sweet hay. I find this to be a very pleasant smoke. Smooth and tasty. Burn is cool and consistent. I can find no faults with this fine blend.

Medium in body and taste. No added flavoring.

I really like this blend. It's got a nice amount of latakia. (I love a lat bomb. I'm not sure this is, but it has a healthy dose at the very least.) Still, it has a nice balance with a nice amount of bright Virginia. I don't detect a large amount of anything else, but that's perfectly fine with me. In essence, if you enjoy latakia, I think you will like this. If not, stay away. It isn't for the light-hearted, but if you want something worth your time to sit and contemplate with, this is a great option.

A pleasant medium strength English blend with notes of citrus. Not as heavy as say, Dunhill London Mixture, but heavier than Murray's Belfast blend. Every bowl I smoked seemed to be more needy on relights than other blends. Though I prefer a heavier English at night, this blend is quite pleasing at noon - early afternoon.

one word: Bitching! In my Morta billiard it's very lively, if Germain's English blends are refined and subdued, this is like a bunch of high school kids on their way to their first concert! the virginia's are caramel sweet, the Latakia is smoky but not musty, the orientals are tangy but not sour. In my cob it calmed down a bit but remained in character but calmer, like dad had to put his arm over the seat of the car on the way to the concert, LOL. would heartily recommend!
