Dobie's Dobie's Four Square-Cavendish

(3.00)
New to the ever-expanding Dobie's 4 Square line is Dobie's 4 Square Cavendish. This is a true European-style, Virginia-based black cavendish that's cool and not overly sweet. The room note is pleasant, and the flavor is smooth and never overwhelming. When you want a slightly aromatic blend you can puff on all day, 4 Square Cavendish is a great choice.

The black cavendish has a deeply rich, creamy smooth vanilla flavor. I also get a very light toast, brown sugar and honey note. No nic-hit to speak of. It won’t bite, and has no harsh or dull spots. Burns at a moderate pace, cool, clean and silky smooth with a very consistent flavor. Requires a few relights because the tobacco is mildly moist. Leaves just a little moisture in the bowl, but no goop or dottle. Easily burns to ash. The after taste and room notes pleasantly linger. An easy going all day smoke that also makes a good mixer.

Because I have smoked the entire line of Dobie's originals over and over again over the years (with great appreciation for all of them), I purchased the full line-up of the remakes to see how they stacked up. This one is not a remake though.

A very mild (where's the beef), light aromatic with mostly a vanilla after taste that was somewhat bitter toward the bottom of the bowl. Not real goopy when done, but you'll need to swab the deck after smoking it. Don't puff too fast as you seek tobacco flavor because there seems to be a lot of Virginia in here and it nips the tongue. Should improve as it ages.
