Kendal - Rodeo Shag.

I wasn't expecting R.S. to be this good. I bought this along with a few other strictly 'budget' blends out of curiosity; how good could a blend that's been made with saving money in mind actually be? Well, this is a surprise!

I was expecting it to be a fine shag cut, but upon opening the pouch I found more of a mid-sized ribbon blend. The moisture's great, and there's not much to report about the pouch-note: a simple VaBur one.

I get my Pete' lit and straight away think to myself how this would cost a lot more money if it were from a company like Peterson or Sam Gawith ; it's better not to think about how much Davidoff would charge! The flavour's great: the Burley seems to be of a lot higher standard than the word 'Budget' suggests. In all fairness, I can taste a far higher proportion of the Burley in comparison to the Virginia: that's not bad though, it's a wonderful nutty/toasty taste.

The nicotine's around medium, and the room-note's exactly as you'd expect from a VaBur!

A good smoke for 6 quid!

Highly recommended.

Another fine addition to the kendal/ gawith and hoggarth inventory.

This is a propper blue collar tobacco, in fact if you wished to try tobacco in the old days of the English purity laws, laws were tobaccos could only be flavoured with spiced tobaccos and only certain flavours, this would of been one.

A very uncomplicated mixture of Virginias and burley, with a good dose of firecured for good measure with absolutely nothing added, casing or topping wise.

Opening this pouch, it brought back memories of bayside mixed blend, the aroma is reminiscent of that, but much more superior, without the twigs, stems and God knows what added to bulk it out, again this is just pure leaf and no added junk.

Opening the pack the aromas, are slightly sweet and tart from the Virginias and a good deal of smokiness from the fire cured.

Packing is no big deal, although I would advise packing a little firmer than usual so it doesn't burn away too fast light it and just let it do its thing.

It isn't overly complex, but you do get some lovely subtle flavours of pure tobacco, and surprisingly it doesn't bite, or even burn hot.

That said though I would not advise this to the total novice, as due to the subtlety of the flavours, you may be tempted to go at this to hard and too fast and then tongue bite would play havoc.

But sipped and appreciated and it rewards the smoker with a very pleasant experience indeed and one I would highly recommend to the smoker that enjoys a pure tobacco experience, or someone who just likes a good old fashioned style tobacco. I also think it would make a great Base for making your own blend, add a touch of latakia and or perique and then you will have a whole different experience.

All in all, a tobacco that delivers on taste, smoking pleasure and price, could easily be an all day smoke if you treat it right, it's one of them tobaccos where you can just load up and smoke away as you crack on with your daily business or a great blend to sit with and concentrate on the flavours as they waft in and out, and appreciate a good, honest pure tobacco experience.

On a side note though and I have to agree with stevieb, this mixture is cheap, especially at UK prices, I do wonder though if this would be made by mac baren, Dunhill, Davidoff or peterson how much more of a premium we would pay for it to be packed into a tin with a fancy name and enticing tin blurb?, very interesting thought indeed.

Similar Blends: Bayside mixed blend, but much much more superior, both in presentation and taste and overall smoking experience., Also kendal north star, but rodeo has added fire cured tobaccos for a little extra strength..
