Mike & Russ: The Mind Meld Chocolate
(2.67)
Who doesn't like chocolate? Of course, no one needs the extra calories, but Mike McNiel and Russ Ouellette have the perfect answer - Mike & Russ - The Mind Meld Aromatic - Chocolate. This mixture of mellow burley, zesty Virginia and silky-smooth black cavendish is the base for a deep, rich note of dark chocolate which is finished with just a touch of nut flavor. The room note is wonderful without being overpowering, and the taste is warm and lightly sweet. This may be the perfect understated chocolate aromatic.

The burley is nutty, a little toasty with a light molasses taste and strikes me as the more obvious tobacco. The Virginia is lightly grassy sweet in a support role. The black cavendish is like a sugary vanilla, though I really don’t notice it for its taste as much as I do for its smoothness. The dark chocolate topping has some richness and somewhat sublimates the tobaccos, though you will always notice them. A few drops of nuts underscores the chocolate. The nic-hit is mild. No chance of bite, no dull or harsh spots even when smoked fast. Burns at a reasonable pace, cool and clean with a moderately creamy, very smooth, consistent flavor from start to finish. Doesn’t need many relights, and leaves a little moisture in the bowl, but not enough to spoil anything. Has a pleasant after taste that lingers a little. A very comfortable all day smoke that will hold your interest as you go about your business. You might find people will hang around you as you smoke it, and get hungry for chocolate cake.

Interesting blend for sure. Nice room note upon opening. Mostly chocolate with a slight nutty aroma. Nice easy light up and burns nice and cool. Taste is interesting with a nice nutty flavor and some chocolate in the background. As I finished the bowl the chocolate seemed to pick up in flavor. This is a blend I will most likely add to my rotation. I may even mix a bit with my Boswell Chocolate Cream, which is my go to chocolate aromatic. The addition of the nutty flavor really adds to the overall enjoyment.

It smells soooo good, I could just huff this stuff all day. The chocolate doesn't come across as cheap - I was tempted to eat a wad of this stuff. The background nutty/hazelnut/liqueur aroma added salivating tingles. Let's eat...
OK, to be fair, no tobacco in the world could translate the sublime initial whiffs into an equally delicious hot smoke, but I was hoping for a bit more of the taste to shine through. What followed was fine, but nothing remarkable. It was like a half finished Italian soda made with dark chocolate (and some cherry) syrup, but before the seltzer is added to open up the flavors. Towards the end, much of the flavor left (or I was simply numb to it). Still, it never felt cheap and it felt like another quality McClelland product.
I'm not sure if this was produced in the McClelland plant which is now kaput, but if it was and I could go back in time, I'd rather grab some GKCPC Chocolate Silk or better yet their Master Penman.
