Sutliff Tobacco Company Caramello J2

(2.67)
Carmello is a blend of fine Virginias and mellow Burleys which pair beautifully with the rich, warm flavor of caramel. The flavor is smooth and sweet and the room note is a crowd pleaser.

Sutliff Tobacco Co. - J2 Carmello.

The mixture's coarse cut, includes a few different shapes/sizes, is medium brown, nicely hydrated, and smells sweet!

The smoke has enough of a caramel flavour for it to suit a newbie, but what separates it from that genre is the Virginia, Burley base. The rugged Burley leads and prevents it being like the usual heavy, vanilla laden black Cavendish ones. I see this as being more of an 'aromatic for grown ups'; it's like comparing fine Belgian chocolates to lollipops! J2 burns well, requires only a little work to keep burning, goes to a grey ash, without giving me much bite.

Nicotine: a spot above mild. Room-note: nice.

J2? Not a bad smoke, three stars:

Recommended.

Sutliffe Caramelo J2

This aromatic little concoction provides a really nice room note, adequate mouth feel and deep sweetness in the smoke. The nicotine has absolutely been sauced out of this, although the base tobaccos are quite good at this price point.

Wife gives a B-minus to room note, which surprised me. I think the sidestream smells wonderful.

This tobacco benefitted from about an hour's drying time at 34% humidity near a heat vent. When dried it performed beautifully in the pipe and did not show any eagerness to bite my tongue. Even without drying, smoking this will be a three match affair at most, including the charring light.

The other reviewer here says that there are better caramels available but gives no examples. I am guessing that anything "better" would come in a tin at 4 times the bulk price. Recommended, but do dry it a bit and afterward pack loosely into a smaller chamber bowl and sip lightly.

This one wants to bite real bad! Baby steps, uh, sips. While trying to keep the bite under control, I noticed a nice room note accumulating. I smoke outside, so it was brief, but pleasant. The smoke is sweet, with a mild caramel flavor. I think my wife would enjoy being around this one. I’ve had better caramel aromatics, so I’d not choose this one to fill a caramel craving.
