The original Bulldog tins made by Dan Tobacco in the 1990s were really handsome. If the photo on the TRC site is indicative of what the new tins look like, then I don't want to buy one. Loved the old fashioned tin art and loved the tobacco. It was a beautiful, almost square cut flake that was partially broken. The strength was there as was the flavor. And the Dan Tobacco way of adding flavoring agents was unobtrusive and only sweetened up the smoke a little and produced a room note that others appreciated. I guess I could purchase a tin now to see if only the label has changed. If that's true, then purchasing a few more would be a wise choice.

This blend is new to me. I browsed the extensive Danpipe choice of house blends the other day, just to find something new and untested, and fell for this one. It is a virginia flake tobacco and a very well produced one. The slices are light to medium brown with a few light sparkles. Thin and easy to rub out and not too wet. When opening the tin, the first thing you observe is a rather noticeable flavor and not so much the tobacco. The flavor is hard to describe - yet fruity but also quite exotic in nature. Not overwhelming but more an intriguing one. Would this fill the room with a not so pleasant perfume odor? Well, it does not. It is rather gentile. The taste then - well, this is definitely a virginia blend made from medium to light tobaccos. The flavor is certainly also present in the mouth, but mostly in the form of a grapefruit/pomelo type of taste, which somewhat compliments the light virginia with its citrus and grassy notes. Not unpleasant at all. I had hoped for a more sweet and nutty virginia type of taste, but this is not very prominent here. But all in all this is a quite pleasing smoke if you can tolerate the subtitle flavor which has been added. I certainly believe the flavor adds to the blend and makes it more enjoyable. It is a bit sharp on the tongue, but not more than most virginia flakes are these days. I quite like it and might be tempted to buy it again.

this has a somewhat soapy floral smell and taste. it's nice if you want that sweet smoke. But i wouldn't really buy again because my taste moves towards the more earthy smokes. it's not a bad smoke, but i would rather buy other tobacco's to try out

it can burn hot and bite. when i have smoked 2/3 of the bowl, the soapy taste kinda fades, but is still present. i don't find that it ghosts my pipes. (i'm primarily a VA smoker )
