HU Tobacco RaiKo InBeTween

(3.75)
Nearly half a measure of latakia is sustained by high grade Virginias, burley and unflavoured black cavendish. A discreet cocoa flavour delivers a satisfying, indulging taste without ever becoming overly sweet.
Notes: Formerly called "RaiKo ChocoLat," the change is due to new German regulations.

The very smokey, woody, earthy, musty sweet Cyprian Latakia is the dominant component by almost fifty percent, though this is no lat-bomb. The bright and stoved Virginias are tangy stewed fruit sweet with some tart and tangy citrus, tangy dark fruit, earth, wood, and a touch of grass, and are evident in every puff. The earthy, woody burley is a supporting player: nutty sweet, and it may have some cocoa, though that is hard to tell because of the mild chocolate topping, which is rich in flavor and sweetness. The unsweetened black cavendish provides a brown sugar creaminess that helps tone down any potential rough edges. The sweetness is not over done, and is amply complimented by the smokiness of the Latakia. The nic-hit is a step past the mild mark. The strength is a shade past mild, and the taste is mild to medium. Burns at a reasonable pace, cool and clean with a well balanced, consistent taste that never weakens, and is devoid of both harsh and dull notes. Won't bite. Leaves little moisture in the bowl, and requires few relights. An all day smoke that burns to the last shred of tobacco with a pleasantly lingering after taste and room note.

I was expecting this to be a lot like Samuel Gawith Choco Flake (now CF Flake), and was hoping it could replace the overpriced SG blend in my rotation. Well... RaiKo InBeTween (formerly ChocoLat) is a different beast... of the same kin.... yet with its very own character!

First off, my tin must've got some age to it, as beneath the label, there are leftovers of the old label (saying "ChocoLat" instead of "InBeTween") lurking.. and what strengthens me in my assumption is the rather dry condition - it's sweet spot moisture for me... "next to crispy", but I assume this usually comes a bit more moist.

In the tin there's a wonderful cut waiting... Cornflake-ish parts of bright leafs -(Virginia?), few long ribbons of red-/dark-brown color (Burley?), and lots of pitch black, finer ribbons (Latakia + Black Cavendish). The tin note surprised me quite a lot... I was expecting a rich "chocolat bomb" aroma, as in Samuel Gawith's Choco Flake, but instead got a very tobacco-forward aroma that also has some decent fruitiness to it! The chocolate is there, but rather mild and unobtrusive and melts excellently with the smoky, buttery Latakia scent!

Pack, light, puff... easy going! Again I am surprised by the fruitiness, that's present in virtually every puff! Quickly the Latakia comes out to play and gives this blend some pleasant spice & smoke. Spicy, salty, creamy and smoky, as well as decently woodsy. A mild sweetness is everpresent as well, but is never too much.

This is not a sweet blend, it's rather spicy! Harmonized by caramel-ish sweetness, fruity notes and a very mild chocolate note that's rounding the blend in the back with its cocoa, and dark chocolate aroma. It's like dark chocolate, with salty caramel chunks, coating some sweet fruits. Paired with a nice smokiness and natural tobacco taste...

I like this weed, it's a lot different than I had expected it to be, but it surprised me in a good way! Much more natural than I'd thought, and much more nuanced than I'd expected it to be! A very unique smoke, that's mild yet rich and for me suits a soothing morning smoke!

I have never tried an aromatic blend with such a high percentage of Latakia and to be honest I could not really image it well. But I know that HU Tobacco creates astonishing unusual but always great tobaccos and even the aromatics got still the natural tobacco flavors in focus. So I had to tried this blend. After cracking the tin, I found a relatively strong chocolate scent which I didn’t expect from a HU blend. But there is also a smell of nuts and tangy fruits in the tin.

The taste of the tobacco is as well as the scent more chocolate-flavored as I was expecting it when I bought the mixure. But the good thing is, that there is all the time the natural tobacco in focus. The chocolate is always present but it supports the natural flavors of the tobacco. It is sweet, but not over-sweet. It reminds me of brown sugar. This sweet chocolate alternates with smokiness and spiciness. Some other tastes I picked up are wood, earth and nuts. The latter fits very well in with the chocolate flavor. Moreover, there are some fruity notes and a very mild citrus flavor from time to time.

Overall, this is a very smooth and easy going tobacco even though it consists of almost 50 percent Latakia.

Very nice and tasty semi aromatic mixture with good amount of latakia. Its something different from regular English blends, unique and special in taste, specially dark chocolate topping. Cool and dry smoke, no chance of tongue bite, few relights, a little moisture at the end. All day smoke. Highly recommended.
